UNWOVEN
Issue 3 | October 2025

Unwoven is an editorial project by the non-profit organization Textile Exchange. It aims to pull apart and reconstruct perceptions of clothing and textiles today by deepening our understanding of the materials that make them, and the stories, questions and concepts behind them.
Issue 3 explores the theme Local & Global, looking at how place-based knowledge and lived experience can inform and reshape global sustainability frameworks in the fashion and textile industry. This edition spotlights material producers and projects around the world, alongside commentaries on how local insights and reconnection to place might influence broader systems change. It unpacks the idea of adaptation, to environments, policy and markets, as well as resilience, and how places have shaped solutions to pressing sustainability challenges.
STORIES FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE

All around the world, individuals and communities have developed locally adapted systems for producing or recycling materials, regenerating land, and preserving cultural heritage. Each rooted in place-based knowledge, these are not isolated case studies but practical pathways showing how local solutions can strengthen global resilience.
